Hello Friends,

Sadness, gratitude and relief...all emotions...but I never thought it possible to be able to feel these so drastically different emotions all at the same time.  This morning my big baby (14 years old) started high school!  I have spent the last 9 years preparing for this day since he entered Kindergarten but no matter how much self-help talks you give yourself, prayers and sleepless nights worrying about his future and what will happen when he grows up...nothing prepares you for that first day when he no longer wants you to kiss him goodbye as he enters school.  Independence, confidence and an ability to make their own decisions is what all mother's hope for for their kids but it truly is a sad reality when that day finally comes.

Gratitude...I am so grateful he has matured into such a wonderful and loving young man.  Glad that he adores his younger sister (who entered Grade 8 this morning) even though she is only 12 years old and glad that he still lets his little brother (9 years old) have sleep overs with him in his bed!

Relief...I (we) made it through another Summer!  Although they can be long, boring and tiring, this summer went particularly fast.  It is hard to belief that it has been over two months since school ended in June...time really does speed up the older you get.

I know I am not alone in feeling this way.  We as Moms are happy for the routine and schedule that a new school year brings but also sad to see our kids go to school and become another year older (even though we know we can't stop the clock and keep them little.)

The start of a new school year is the opportunity for change.  A chance to BE AWESOME (not that they aren't already awesome kids.)  The time to reconnect with friends they haven't seen all summer.  The time to reflect on the last school year and to make a commitment to do better.  The time for me as a MOM to be exactly what my children need..a mother, mentor, teacher, friend, provider and one who teaches them about the love of their heavenly Father!

Life is full of journeys...this morning we as a family embarked on another one...TOGETHER!
